The V Foundation was founded in 1993, in a partnership between former NC State award-winning basketball coach/commentator Jim Valvano and ESPN to fund critical research in the fight against cancer. We award 100 percent of all direct cash donations to cancer research and related programs. It was Valvano’s dream to one day find a way to stop cancer. He did not survive his disease, but because of him, we have a foundation that has awarded over $115 million in cancer research grants in the past 20 years. #GivingTuesday is the same day as the kick-off of one of our biggest yearly events – Jimmy V Week, hosted by ESPN.
